Foundation Pit Reinforcement in Old Tbilisi
The brief
Foundation pit reinforcement commissioned by Kalaubani at Kote Abkhazi St. 39 in central Tbilisi (2020). Kote Abkhazi St. runs through the heart of the historic Old Town — the same street where ERTI delivered the Hilton Hotel construction at No. 29. Working in this heritage district demanded careful coordination with the dense surrounding fabric.
The challenge
Kote Abkhazi St. passes through one of Tbilisi's most historically sensitive zones. The adjacent buildings are old, often on shallow foundations, and any ground movement from excavation or piling would risk structural damage. The narrow street and historic context also restricted equipment access and required careful logistics planning.
Our approach
ERTI used the Giken press-in silent piling system to install the sheet pile perimeter without transmitting vibration to the historic neighbours. The zero-dynamic-impact methodology was the appropriate choice for the Old Town setting, protecting the fabric of the surrounding buildings while enabling the required excavation depth.
