The brief
Foundation pit reinforcement at Kobaladze St. 2 in Batumi, one of ERTI's most extensively documented projects in the city. The scale of the photographic record reflects the complexity and duration of the site works, which involved a substantial sheet pile perimeter to support a multi-level basement excavation in Batumi's challenging coastal ground conditions.
The challenge
Batumi's high groundwater table and soft coastal soils present persistent challenges for deep excavation. Managing a large-perimeter foundation pit in these conditions — while keeping the site safe and maintaining the structural integrity of adjacent properties — required careful staging of the sheet pile installation.
Our approach
ERTI installed a comprehensive steel sheet pile perimeter using the press-in methodology, providing continuous lateral earth retention and groundwater cutoff across the full excavation extent. The phased installation approach allowed excavation to proceed zone by zone, maintaining overall site stability throughout the programme.
