Foundation Pit Reinforcement for City Mall Development
The brief
Foundation pit reinforcement at Kavtaradze St. 1 in Tbilisi (2019), delivering the geotechnical works for the City Mall commercial development. Large-scale retail construction places particular demands on foundation engineering — the volume and depth of excavation required is substantially greater than residential projects, requiring a correspondingly robust perimeter solution.
The challenge
A commercial retail development requires significantly deeper and wider excavations than a typical residential foundation pit. Managing a large perimeter in an urban setting, with significant lateral earth loads and groundwater pressure across the full excavation area, demanded both careful design and precise execution.
Our approach
ERTI installed a continuous steel sheet pile perimeter wall around the City Mall excavation, providing the structural earth retention and groundwater control needed for the basement construction. The large perimeter was completed efficiently, enabling the development programme to proceed without delay.
