Foundation Pit Reinforcement, Batumi
The brief
Foundation pit reinforcement commissioned by Batmsheni at Pirosmani St. 3b in Batumi — one of ERTI's first projects outside Tbilisi. The Black Sea coastal city presented different ground conditions from Tbilisi's highland geology, requiring careful adaptation of the sheet piling approach.
The challenge
Batumi's proximity to the Black Sea results in high groundwater tables and cohesive coastal soils that respond differently to sheet piling than the gravel-dominant soils of Tbilisi. Managing groundwater pressure within the excavation was a primary consideration alongside the standard lateral earth retention requirements.
Our approach
ERTI installed a steel sheet pile perimeter wall providing both lateral earth support and groundwater cutoff. The press-in methodology kept noise and vibration within acceptable limits for the urban Batumi setting, enabling safe excavation to the required depth.
